This is the website of sisters, Mary and Valerie Behan. We share this website because we wrote a book together in 2015, Abbey Girls, a memoir about our childhood in Ireland.

We grew up in Ireland. Mary has a BSc and Ph
D from University College Dublin. She moved to the United States in the mid-1970s and spent her career as a Professor of Neuroscience at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Val has a BSc from University College Dublin and a PhD from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She spent most of her career as a Research Scientist with Agriculture Canada in Ottawa. We are both retired, and divide our time between North America and Ireland.

Mary published her first novel, A Measured Thread in 2020 and a collection of short stories, Kernels in 2021. Val has just published a scientific book on Oribatid Mites (2023).
